With the closing of D.C. General, the Washington D.C. Council’s approved of the mayors plan for the construction of short-term housing for those who are experiencing homelessness. Some of the approved facilities include 6 smaller homeless shelters built across the district, and also using hotels as temporary short term housing options. D’andre Stevens, a former homeless citizen, and Moyo Onibuge, a writer for “Street Sense” discuss D.C. General, D.C. homelessness epidemic, and alternate housing methods being put in place by the government and other Washington D.C. Organizations.
